Calibrated to your year
A S1 student and a S7 student can ask the exact same question and need completely different answers. EB Tutor knows your year, your subject, and the periods you take, so it writes accordingly.
How the level is set
You choose your year once when you sign up. From then on, every answer is written for that level, using the official EB syllabus for your subject and period count (for example Mathematics 3 periods vs 5 periods). When you move up a year, the tutor asks you to recalibrate.
S1–S3
Foundations
Plain language, one idea at a time, every step spelled out. Vocabulary is introduced before it is used.
S4–S5
Method
Structured working, correct notation, and the habit of justifying each step: the groundwork for the Baccalaureate.
S6–S7
Exam technique
Marking-scheme structure: full working for “show that”, command-word awareness, and answers written the way examiners expect.
Same question, two answers
Both students ask about solving an equation. Notice how the depth, notation, and tone change.
S1 · Mathematics
How do I solve 3x + 5 = 20?
1. You want x on its own. Start by taking away the 5 on the left, then do the same on the right so the scales stay balanced.
3x + 5 − 5 = 20 − 5, so 3x = 15.
2. Now 3x means “3 lots of x”. Split both sides into 3 equal parts.
x = 15 ÷ 3 = 5.
3. Check it: 3 × 5 + 5 = 20. It works.
S7 · Mathematics 5 periods
Show that x = 5 is the only real solution of 3x + 5 = 20.
1. Rearranging: 3x = 15, hence x = 5.
2. The map f(x) = 3x + 5 is affine with gradient 3 ≠ 0, therefore strictly increasing on ℝ and injective.
3. An injective function takes the value 20 at most once, so x = 5 is the unique real solution.
Full justification is required here: a “show that” item awards marks for the reasoning, not only the value.
